Checkers

Brother Bill and Dale continue a Norman Family tradition. Competitive, no holds barred, no mercy shown checker playing. In this case from the 1990s, the minute Bill came for a visit the checker board came out.
Dad’s brothers were the same. When they returned to the farm from Tennessee, checker buttons were flying with the frequent statement, “Don’t forget to King me.”
Unfortunately the Norman checking playing ability to see far ahead in a game to drive your competitor into defeat, did not make its way down to me. Even as a 8 year old, when I walked into my Grandfather Poppie’s room, where the checker board stayed out on a table, he showed no mercy. I indeed was not a challenge. Although thinking back, Poppie may have enjoyed never losing a game.
Now my checkers is limited to helping other people enjoy the game. Here at JTE Normans’ you’ll find several different versions of checker sets. Hersey Chocolate, Coca-Cola versions and big full size checker boards!
In the words of my Dad, “You have to jump me.” Three moves later the game is over.
